Local News (updated 23/07/00)
So what's going on in Brighton and it's environs
that may be of interest to Eris.
Mail
us your news.
Endorphine Visions.
Wednesday 9th August
@ the Volks,
Madeira Drive, Brighton.
10pm until 2am
Admission £3.50.
Continuing the adventures
of Brightons longest running Fetish Club (arguably its longest running
club at all!), we`ll be building on the roaring success of last
months debut from the new promotion team of ErisCo and long time
EV mainman Roger.
Expect frantic block rocking beats and beautiful
people giving it some upstairs with Resident DJs E23, Spike and
Dusk, and a world of dark delights downstairs in the playroom with
Dark soundscapes from the Invisible Landscapes crew.
Strict Fetish / Goth / Cyber dresscode, 10pm-2am,
3.50 on the door.

Lowlife
Thursday 10th August
at the Jazz Rooms, Ship St.
And an honorable mention before we close
for everyones fave Non Eris night, LowLife, back with us in August
beginning it`s run at The Jazz Rooms on ship street. 10pm-2am, second
Thursday every months with resident DJs Andy, Liz and Tom playing
their usual mix of Darkwave, Industrial, Goth and Alternative barnstormers.
From memory it`s 3.50 to get in, but I`m sure someone will correct
me if I`m wrong. Being as it`s the night after Endorphine Visions,
you`ll all just have to roll into work looking haggard two mornings
in a row won`t you?

Gother Than Thou.
Word has it (okay so Dr Arkham spamming everyone
has it!), that Arkham has just recently started stocking a particularly
noteworthy card game, it's called 'Gother Than Thou' and
as well as being beautifully designed and illustrated with extremely
tongue in cheek gothic imagery, also has a rather interesting game
mechanism that shoul ensure enjoyment of it even after the novelty
of the cards themselves wears off. Basically you get the opportunity
to screw your friends over - in the nicest possible way of course
- in your quest for becoming the goffest of them all. Arkham is
the first stockist of this little treat in the UK and at present
the only one (he even has first editions of what will surely become
a very collectable item!), why not drop by to the shop or the website
and take a look. Oh yes, and while you're there you should check
out the Big
Bat Boutique T-shirts he has recently acquired as well,
because they are absolutely fantastic!

mut-IL-ate
Wednesday 14th June
at the Volks.
Mut-IL-ate continues its
devil may care club hopping and whoring, winding up this time at
the Volks Tavern (on the seafront, just down a few minutes eastwards
from Palace Pier), with your residents E23(Endorphine Visions/Invisible
Landscapes), Kink(Mutate/The Wendyhouse) and Severance (Communion/Fragile
Mechanisms) having their usual fistfight over the decks as they
strive to achieve the desired balance between Digital Hardcore,
Acid Techno and Industrial Musicks. Downstairs will feature the
ever lovin` antics of the Invisible Landscapes soundsystem for those
who need to calm down to some of the scariest ambient sounds around.
10pm-2am, 3.50 / 3.00 conc to pass the hallowed portals. The astute
amongst you may notice that this night is happening without your
permission in the slot where one would normally find Endorphine
Visions.
Well basically, ErisCo have been given the opportunity
to become involved in the running of Brighton's longest running
Fetish Club (indeed, arguably, the longest running club night full
stop at coming up to 6 years now - which we feel is testimony alone
to Roger's hard work in the past). Hence explaining how we've managed
to find a gig for mut-IL-ate this month. Basically we're hoping
to develop a kind of fusion of the two nights and this is an opportunity
for both set's of regulars to appreciate the finer points of the
others events, and generally get bums moving back towards seats
(or wherever else in the club they deem appropriate) and giving
us one of the best club nights in Brighton for a long time. We do
however, hope that people will nonetheless make a bit of an effort
for the evening, making it a blissful frisson of cutting edge hardnosed
electronica and shiny pvc happy people. The following month, Endorphine
Visions will return as usual, with the addition of Invisible Landscapes
in the back room, and hopefully some sort of live entertainment
/ floorshow every month to make each one a bit special. The door
price is going down from a fiver to 3.50 as well - so there's no
reason for not coming along. Upstairs the music will be as usual,
with my good self doing his usual ambient => hard techno, breakbeat
& industrial followed by the other regulars playing nu-nrg, trance
and techno. We`ll be very much playing it by ear based on the respective
turnouts of Mut-Il-ate and this first E.V. under the new regime
as to how we push this night into the future - so you can in effect
vote with your feet guys`n`gals - but want to keep it fun, lively
& playful - someone where everyone can have a bloody good time.
So feel safe to dress up, boogie and generally strut your stuff
without any hassle. Stay tuned.

Sub Version
Thursday 15th June
at the Hungry Years.
Also on Thursday 15th June 10:30m-2am
- giving you a most resplendent gig to club evening, a new night
called Sub Version at the Hungry Years (not sure how often this
is on, I suspect monthly), playing (as per flyer) Industrial / Gothic
/ Darkwave / EBM. We have no idea who is running this, and as per
our rant earlier will get a little pissy if this takes preference
over Mut-IL-ate, but fancy a look at this night ourselves, encourage
you all to check it out, and wish these people the best of British.
Get down there and check it out, as any night at the Hungry Years
that mentions EBM on the flyer is probably going to be short lived
(bitter post Shrine fatalism settling in here I suspect), but perhaps
if we all make the effort this may not be so. As always, it`s your
scene, so don`t whine that you have nowhere to go if you don`t make
an effort for stuff lke this.

Chasing in which a myriad of goth and industrial superstars will
be hurling themselves down (or perhaps up once they`ve seen it)
a scree slope in pursuit of a block of wood painted to look like
a cheese. Full details as soon as Lee sends me them.

Saturday 03/06/00
Graham Massey`s Toolshed Collective at the Sallis Benney Theatre,
Grand Parade, Brighton.
We`ll print the flier again :- "Massey, the musical
mind behind 808state (techno innovators and international stadium
rockers / remixers / producers from Bjork to Quincy Jones) brings
Manchester`s Toolshed Collective on a rare outing to Brigthon. The
Toolshed club night is described in Dave Haslam`s current best seller
"Manchester England" as "one of the defining club nights of the
late 90s" and has been running at various venues in Manchester for
two years. A unique feature of the "Toolshed Allstars" is that they
take a cavalier attitude to coming up with something new for each
performance. They often change it`s character between double-necked
heavy metal free form mush to lush amient symphonies to techno versions
of Duke Ellington and Morricone. centred on Masseys techno arsenal,
the band features up to 3 drummers, the distinctive vocals of Sea
Ming Too, the world famous jazz violin of Graham Clark and bassist
Paddy Steer. On the same day, free of charge there will be a related
selection of music from the University of Brighton and other colleged
in the region 4-8pm" This will be at 8:30pm, will be 5/4/2 quid
and the info hotline is 01273 643010.
