About ErisCo.
For a long time now ErisCo has been the
hard work of one man - Mark Firman. - Mr Eris. Since the latter
part of the 20th Century, he has been joined in this opus by close
friend & co-conspirator - Dru Moore - Mr Id.
Based in Brighton, but active throughout
Southern England, ErisCo have been primarily involved in organizing
CyberPunk/Gothic/Industrial gigs and happenings of the highest standards.
(see our history pages for some of our recent events.) The purpose
of the ErisCo site is primarily to provide a platform for updating
our members on our movements and chronicling past activities - although
you are not required to be an ErisCo member to access this information!
- also we hope to offer a fairly comprehensive gazeteer of Eris-related
web resources. We hope to do this well enough to become an essential
portal for the alternative community in the UK. Please feel free
to use us as a starting point for many a night lost in space, BOOKMARK
us if you so desire, as this would simply delight us. (& of course
ERIS herself).
How it all began.
A lifelong fan of music, Mark Eris began his heady
rise to obscurity on News Years Eve 1993 whilst at a party at a
mates house. A pair of record decks and mixer were set up, and combined
with a heady cocktail of dangerously powerful hallucinogens led
to one of the more interesting DJ sets of the evening as Mr. Eris
could simply not contain himself. A potent mixture of dark ambient,
trip hop, techno and hippy nonsense ensued, high point of the evening
being the sudden realisation by all present in the room that there
was something quite ancient in there with us, no doubt helped by
the subdued candle light and the sinister celtic edge to the current
tracks being mixed together . from the "Feed Your Head Vol 1" compilation.
Pro from the first, whilst submitting to panicked requests to change
the music, Mr. Eris took the time to ensure the next record was
lined up and mixed in properly, leading to much wailing and panicking
from those present who has long since ceased to be having a good
time. Needless to say he was completely sold. The bank account was
emptied as soon as the shops reopened and Mr. Eris returned to University
to attempt to fit a set of decks somewhere in the tiny hovel that
passed for accomodation. A slightly disturbing style of ambient
mixing ensued rather quickly and records were purchased at alarming
rate to feed the beast. Simultaneous with this flurry of second
hand creativity, the Eris involvement in the Macabre society, a
group of chancers blagging money off the government to fund their
sordid gothic activities increased, culminating in becoming part
of the DJ partnership with DJ Camel , ironically as Camel was also
the DJ name of the Eris at this point - neither person actually
bothering to tell anyone else their DJ name, at the Danse Macabre,
an infrequent Goth club. The final Danse Macabre proved to be a
somewhat interesting assimilation of both Camels cut up mix style
and supposed sense of humour. Previously very much a trad goth ,
punk night with bits of industrial, mayhem reigned, the first hour
featuring cut ups of obscure industrial numbers followed by 3 hours
of classic goth with a "twist" - highlight of the evening being
Nik Fiend farting over the pit on Psychonaut where it all goes twirly
and much flaling of limbs generally ensues - The ensuing sour faces
and complete lack of syncopation will be remembered forever. We
hear tell that there is still a Danse Macabre running in Swansea
sporadically to this day, but suspect such mayhem is conspicuous
by its absence.... .........Part II to follow........
